Reflections on Sharp End Video Title
Telly Award Winning Video
The Sharp End was a black-owned commercial and residential neighborhood that was torn down by the Urban Renewal program. Tinting and animating these photos brought them to life in this title.

Challenge:
The Reflections on Sharp End video was created to tell the story about an area of town that had been populated with black businesses and residences from the 1900s to the 1960s when it was torn down by the federal Urban Renewal programs. Black owned businesses came into existence in part because black people needed services but there was so much widespread discrimination. The challenge was to make this title into a commemoration and celebration of this place and time.
Solution:
The name of the black owned business part of town was Sharp End and I used triangular shapes and diagonal lines to visually represent a sharp end. I chose colors and typography that were reminiscent of 1950s style yellow and pink advertisements. I created motion graphics from still photographs that were used throughout the video.
